What impressed us particularly was the truly delightful staff who went out of their way to make our stay special for us. And the breakfast was truly phenomenal - the range of choices was superb and there was a lot of flexibility if one wanted a slight difference from anything listed. The hotel's location, raised above the centre, was not too far to walk from shops and restaurants with several route alternatives. For visiting the island, the bus stop at Grange Top was slightly closer than heading to the Town Terminus, albeit still a few minutes' walk. On arrival, our initial impression of the building was a little negative - peeling paint and rather less architecturally appealing than our mental images, and the in-room decor (repeating postage stamp images) was striking rather than beautiful, but the room was very comfortable with almost all facilities we wanted (no fridge, but we could request fresh milk and a bucket of ice daily from the bar). We didn't get to use the swimming pool as weather was terrible so not sure how that would have been but it looked a decent size for the number of rooms.

Tucked away up a hill surrounded by green space and beautiful buildings, The Duke of Richmond hotel was 10 minutes away from the seafront. Spotlessly clean and polished throughout with informative and friendly staff at the ready to deal with requests - nothing was too much trouble. My room was comfortable with plenty of storage space for luggage - quite the boudoir style - softly padded and upholstered wall treatments with burgundy cricket stripe matched to perfection with the Roman blinds and drapes. I was particularly impressed with the huge collection of original and printed artwork - both in the room and communal areas, restaurant etc. Everything was delightfully elegant, quirky, tongue-in-cheek or all three. A relaxing and fun hotel. The cooked breakfasts were delicious and served with friendly humour. We took a trip around the countryside with #REALguernsey and a ferry hop over to Herm. Will definitely return.

Outstanding service with attention to detail, is the hallmark of the Duke of Richmond. This is one of the best hotel customer service we have experienced. We were a group of 10 in 6 rooms. All the rooms are clean and tidy with some having excellent sea views of the entire harbour. The breakfast is one of the best we have ever experienced with excellent variety. The swimming pool is sizeable and the perfect temperature. i accidentally left my phone in the bar before going out for a meal one evening and a member of staff found me further down the road and returned it to me. Nothing was too much trouble. Would stay here again when we return to Guernsey.

Breakfast choice was amazing and tasty and staff very friendly but we were asked for our choice of drinks on sitting down and our choice of toast so by the time we wanted the toast with marmalade it was cold . We asked for the toast to come after the eggs on the second and third day . Also they want you to order your hot breakfast but dont give you time to eat the fruit or cereal and it arrived before I had finished and as the table was small they asked if they could take my bowl away to fit the eggs plate on but I hadn’t finished ! Felt like they wanted to serve you quickly but I think they were too keen and just wanted to please .

The breakfast was good. Continental choices and freshness excellent. Cooked breakfast options ideal. The hotel is clean and in good condition. The staff are superb. The only downside was Guernsey is so hilly! The taxi from the ferry was £6.50. The return taxi to the Ferry terminal was £10. The bus service is good. Buy your day pass from the Bus office by the main terminal because you can get a 2 day for £11. One journey should be £1.50 but when we got on the bus the driver would only do the £10 day pass, in hindsight the 2 day one would have been better value.
